About this speaker
I am an experienced actuary and risk manager, currently an Associate Director at QED Actuaries and Consultants, which is Africa's largest independent actuarial consulting firm, and before this, having led the Enterprise Risk Management and Actuarial Functions for AIG group within Africa for several years. I combine deep technical expertise within the P&C and Life insurance sectors with a view of the cutting-edge possibilities enabled by modern machine and deep learning, and have published several papers showing how these techniques can be applied. I focus on leveraging my technical expertise in order to achieve value creation for the businesses I work in and have engaged closely with senior management throughout my career to provide innovative solutions to business problems. I continue to develop my people management skills with increasing responsibility for direct reports and I am passionate about leading high performing teams that enable staff to do their best work. I am a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries and the Actuarial Society of South Africa and hold practicing certificates in Short Term Insurance and Life Insurance from the Actuarial Society of South Africa, and a Masters of Philosophy in Actuarial Science, with distinction, from the University of Cape Town.
