Implementing Analytics in Life: An End to End Example of the Application of Machine Learning in a Life Insurance Company
A Talk by Adriaan Rowan (Data Scientist and Actuary, i3Actuaries)
About this Talk
Many presentations have been given at conferences about Machine Learning and analytics, but most actuaries still only have a vague understanding of what it practically means, especially in a life company.
This presentation aims to break up the machine learning process into individual steps, to give clear explanations of the data gathering, modelling and analysis parts. In doing so, I hope to demystify machine learning a bit and there by encourage the great use of it in insurance companies.
The presentation does not require, and will not deep dive into, a technical understanding of machine learning models, but will explain when certain models are better to use than others when modelling mortality.
